Great Websites for your Interactive Glassboard
Interactive whiteboards are great for the classroom; you can connect to the internet, to slide show lessons and you can pause to ask questions from students, draw connections to the material and help get your students more involved. Interactive whiteboards may be intimidating at first, but there are quite a few websites that can help you liven up your classroom:
EcoZoo – This website is a 3D environment that allows students to understand the importance of taking care of the eco-system and how it ties into the lives of different animals. Each animal has its own pop-up book that gives a little story about the character. They are all environmentally conscious and have little quirks, like turning off the water when brushing their teeth, to help get your students thinking about their role in saving the planet.
Google Body Browser – Teaching anatomy? Google just made life easier by creating a detailed map of the human body! This site allows you to look at a 3D model of the body, and you can peel back anatomical layers, zoom in, and search for specific muscles, organs and bones! While Google’s Body browser is still new, there should be updates in the near future to get you up and running.
Save the Words – Oxford University Press created this website to prevent endangered words from going extinct. These words are great to add into your students’ vocabularies, whether they’re seven or seventeen!
Talking Calculator – The talking calculator is a great tool for math teachers, trying to get their students involved. Instead of just writing numbers on these glass whiteboards, the talking calculator can read back to you the processes, which is great for learning math.
Succeeding with Science – Great for science teachers, this site was created by Sellafield Nuclear Power Station, and has a host of interactive activities and downloads for busy teachers. There is teaching material for both elementary and high school students and even gives you information about the power station, which is great in helping teach the complex subject of nuclear science.
The Children’s University of Manchester -This resource is great for elementary school teachers and covers a broad spectrum of science and anatomy topics, like electricity, health, and space. There are games you can play as a class, which helps stimulate your students, and you can also show them what the real scientists are working on at the University of Manchester while they’re doing it.
